How To Play Halo Without a Disk or Without an Optical Drive
By Berogra
Halo: Combat Evolved is the original game in the Halo series, as most of you probably know. There are a couple of reasons why you may not want to play Halo without a disk. One reason is that your computer may not have an optical drive to play the game, an obvious example being the netbook. Another reason is that your disk may be scratched or heavily worn through use over the last 6 years that the game has been released. This tutorial will provide you with a concise, step-by-step guide on playing Halo without a disk.
Things You Will Need If Halo Isn't Installed
First things first, the things you will need if Halo is not already installed:
A legally purchased Halo disk with a key.
A USB/SD card to copy the halo disk files on to.
Access to a computer with an optical drive.
Other than that, if Halo is already installed you will need no special hardware.
If Halo Is Not Already Installed
If Halo is not installed follow this procedure first:
Get access to a computer with an optical drive.
Put the disk in.
Go to the optical drive through My Computer.
Copy all of the files and paste them in a new folder (call it halodisk for this tutorial) on your USB/SD card.
Remove the USB/SD and put it into the computer you wish to play Halo without a disk on.
Install with the key provided on your case.
Now that you have the game installed, follow the procedure below to play without the disk.
If Halo Is Installed (or now that it is)
If you have/now have the game installed, this is what to do to play without the disk:
Head over to the Bungie Patch Page.
Download the Halo PC 1.08 patch. This allows you to play without the disk.
And That's It!
I hope this guide has worked for you. If you are using it, please comment. If you are having any trouble, please refer to the comments on the patch page or leave a comment here for help. Enjoy playing Halo without a disk!
